The Lakes Woman’s Club is a social, non-profit philanthropic organization. We are comprised of women who are interested in promoting education, social welfare and the betterment of the community. The Club and each individual promote goodwill and friendship.
History: In 1945 approximately eleven women founded the Lakes Hughes quilting Circle known today as The Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Woman’s Club. The group met in various homes. On “club” day they would quilt, have a nice lunch and discuss different functions happening in the community. It was an exciting time when people were interested in working together for the betterment of their community. It wasn’t until 1981 that The Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Woman’s Club was incorporated. Since that time, the Club’s community service and charitable contributions have been many and varied.
Affiliations: We are affiliated with the California Federation of Women’s Clubs with over 44,000 members in more than 650 clubs statewide as well as the General Federation of Women’s Clubs International whose worldwide membership exceeds several million volunteers. GFWC was founded in 1890 and is the largest, oldest, non-partisan and non-denominational women’s service organization in the world. Its headquarters is in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C. Our club is in the Sierra-Cahuenga District 15, Area C.
Meetings: Our Club holds monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Members are encouraged to attend and participate in club activities.
Membership & Dues: Our membership consists of women of Lake Hughes, Elizabeth Lake and the surrounding vicinities. Yearly membership requirements include attending a minimum of two meetings, support the club’s major fundraising events and serve on a committee. Dues are $25.00 per year. The Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes Woman’s Club has something for everyone. There is a wide diversity of talents and interests possessed by our members and each is willing to volunteer her services. All of us work together, bringing our own special talent to make each endeavor successful and fun. All members are part of the decision making process. We are a service club to our community. The GFWC motto is “strength united is stronger”. With our unity and strength we are “making a difference”, our club’s motto. Our club is a great place to make new friends, keep in touch with community functions, learn new skills and “make a difference”.
